Removable implant dentures are designed to be d5etached from their implants by the patient for hygiene purposes. These restorations usually require only three to five dental implants, which makes them great for many patients with low jawbone density.

The Implant Denture Process

The team at Elwood Avenue Dental is proud to perform the entire dental implant placement process at our office, which can help patients enjoy a comfortable and stress-free treatment experience. The four steps to receiving dental implants are:

  • Consultation: Our dentist will evaluate the patient’s oral health and determine the best way to replace their lost teeth. Some patients may need restorative treatments to address oral infections before they can safely receive implants.
  • Surgery: Our dentist will surgically insert a dental implant into your jawbone. This procedure is always done after administering an appropriate anesthetic to ensure the patient’s comfort. The implants will need several months to fuse with the jawbone after the treatment.
  • Abutments: After the surgical sites have healed, the patient will come back to our office to have abutment pieces placed on their implants through another minor surgical procedure. We’ll also take bite impressions during this appointment.
  • Dentures: About two weeks after receiving abutments, the patient will return to our office to have their denture attached. After any final adjustments, they’ll be ready to show off their new smile.

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Most adults who are missing most or all of their teeth can be excellent candidates for implant dentures as long as they are in excellent oral health. While untreated oral infections will disqualify you from the treatment, we can address these problems at our office, which may make you an excellent candidate later. Conditions like pregnancy, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, and hemophilia can complicate the process, but they do not necessarily disqualify you from implant dentures.
